Tuesday KK 2011
Tuesday was our first full day of Kamp, and it was so much fun. The students started their day with a good breakfast, and then they went to have their TAWG – Time Alone with God. For 30 minutes the entire Kamp is quiet as students sit by the lake, under a tree, or out in a field to spend a few minutes with the Creator and Lover of their souls. It is so good to see the next generation desire to spend time with God.
The morning continued with high school headed to morning challenge, where they worshiped with The Museum, and heard a challenge from Tyson. We also started passing out mail…oh my goodness…the mail! We probably passed out about 200 pieces. It was so fun to watch the students' faces light up as their name was called. Thank you for connecting with your children that way.
Tuesday was also the first day of REC. The competition was fierce, but full of good attitudes and sportsmanship! This is an exciting part of the kamp as the students compete in wild, crazy games for the goal of being this year’s rec champs. Throughout the week they are playing games like Kajobi, Wheel Steal, Monkey Ball and many more. Ask your students about them when they get back for a great connection point to get them talking about the week.
You have to know that God is doing some amazing things in the lives of these Junior High students. After lunch the Junior High students participated in Scripture memory, Afternoon Celebration, Evening Celebration and our annual Pool Party. One of the best times of the day was scripture memory. First of all, there was a long line of students eagerly waiting to share their verses. Secondly, there is no greater joy than to see these students look you in the eye and share a verse with you that they are beginning to hide in their hearts. During the worship service last night, Frank talked more in depth about living in this way by asking a simple question...are you ready for Jesus to come back? It was beautiful to see how God has initiated the truth of His second coming through the Route 66 series that Alex is preaching right now about the second coming of Christ coupled with the message of last night from our kamp pastor. It is difficult to find words to describe what took place last night. The Holy Spirit moved in an incredible way with our Junior High students. We had several come forward to surrender their life to Christ or to make things right in their fellowship with the Father. It was simply beautiful! Keep praying fervently for God to continue His work here!
In High School, Tyson turned in his “man card” last night as he shared his love for Taylor Swift. He shared how she connects with the rejection we feel in life. We live in a lifestyle where we ask, “When am I going to get mine?” We feel like these things in the world will make us satisfied and complete. But we know deep down that nothing in this world, including relationships, can complete us. The God of the universe is the only thing that can fill the void. He moves towards us by grace. Tyson went on to tell the story of the Prodigal Son found in Luke 15. The son wanted what was owed to him, his inheritance. The father had to give up everything to give the inheritance to his son, and then the son spent it recklessly. We are recklessly extravagant when we are spending everything…time, money, thoughts, relationships, sports, etc., on our selfish gain. As the story goes on, we learn that the things of this world we devote our lives to will give us nothing back. As the son finally returns home, the father runs after him and brings him home. Tyson put a twist on this passage by proposing that the true prodigal is the father. The father is now spending recklessly on the son. That is the Gospel! God gave up everything as He sent His son to die for us. God will cross every obstacle to run for you. During bunk devo time, the students talked about places in their lives that they needed to turn away from to head back to the Father. Take some time next week and ask your students about their lives and where they need to get out of the pigpen.
The night ended with the JH having a pool party and the HS having a Talent Show. Both events were fun, and lots of laughs enveloped the Kamp.
Please join us in praying that students would continue to let their guard down and find freedom in Christ. Thank you!
