Something New...

Why plant another church?
Planting churches is biblical. Paul’s strategy was to visit large cities and to plant churches in each city. Planting evangelistic churches is the best way to reach the cities. Our church’s Vision Statement says, in part: “As a church that participates in the Great Commission we will continue to birth daughter churches as quickly as the Lord provides people and resources.” The current and anticipated growth of our community demands that Great Commission churches like Kingsland continue to plant daughter churches in the path and wake of population growth and community expansion.

Planting churches is strategic. New churches best reach the unreached. Studies confirm that 60% to 80% of the growth in new churches comes from the ranks of those not attending any worshiping body. Churches that are more than 10 to 15 years old gain 80% to 90% of their new members by transfer from other congregations. That’s why those who research the health and growth of churches have concluded that planting new churches is the most effective evangelistic methodology.

How did Kingsland Baptist Church begin?
Kingsland Baptist Church is a good example of the wisdom in planting new churches. Kingsland was established by Tallowood Baptist Church in 1977. The church began with 25 families and met in the Nottingham Country Day School. Today, Kingsland has over 4,700 members with an average weekend attendance of 3,000.

What steps has Kingsland taken to plant our next daughter church?
Our Missions Council has vetted our next church planter in cooperation with San Felipe Baptist Association. Paul Cockrell, who currently serves as our Student Teaching Pastor, has been approved by our Missions Council and Personnel teams to serve as the pastor of our next daughter church. Paul will not fully assume his new responsibilities until our new Student Pastor is in place. He will continue to serve in an advisory capacity to our student ministry through 2012.

When will Kingsland launch the next church plant and where will they meet?
We have set the Fall of 2012 as the time for establishing our new daughter church. This church will initially meet in The Loft at 11:00 AM. The church will eventually meet in a location within driving distance of Kingsland.

What should I do if I am interested in being a part of the church plant?
We will take a survey during worship on February 19 to determine who is interested in helping to launch this new church. Until then, we ask you to pray and to ask God what role you or your family might play in helping to launch our new church. Those interested can also indicate their interest by calling or sending email to Omar Garcia, our Missions Pastor. We will also make provision for you to indicate your interest via our website.

How often will we plant new churches?
Our vision statement declares, “As a church that participates in the Great Commission we will continue to birth daughter churches as quickly as the Lord provides the people and resources.” Our desire is to launch healthy churches with the potential to play a significant role in reaching the unchurched in our community. And, because the nations have come to Katy, our Missions Council will also work to plant ethnic churches in our community to reach many first and second generation immigrants.
